About Us
Local 1285
The Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1285 was established September 18, 1957. Currently, it is comprised of 670 fulltime members and 209 retirees. They serve to protect a city that covers 133.25 square miles (including large Clark County “islands”), nearly 610,000 residents, and several million visitors each year. Their core mission is to:
a) protect members b) serve citizens and
c) promote harmony within the community and department.
The Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1285 has a cost-effective staffing model, which includes 48-hour shifts and 56-hour workweeks. This model provides the lowest cost operation. They work together with the City of Las Vegas to ensure firefighter safety, as well as to address and contain overtime costs. They continuously seek out best practices to ensure there is no abuse of sick time or any other job benefits.

We are the Las Vegas Firefighters Benefit Association; representing a growing membership of active duty and retired Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Firefighters, Arson Investigators, Inspectors and other Fire Communications and Support staff.
We are dedicated to helping our active duty and retired members. With professionalism, ethics and responsibility we maintain and grow our financial resources in order to continue providing our retired members in good standing with assistance in defraying the cost of medical insurance, providing emergency financial assistance, dependent scholarships and death benefits.
We also partner with other charitable organizations to plan morale-boosting and community building events for the hard working and dedicated firefighters of the City Of Las Vegas.
